Who Is Sadie?
Sadie Lynn Pollock is a 22-year-old printmaker from Ontario, Canada who works with Intaglio, cyanotype, relief, and silkscreen to explore ideas around memory, identity, and the roles women are expected to play in society. Her process is hands-on and intuitive, often starting with everyday objects such as a ring or a bottle of perfume. These items carry emotional weight and help connect personal stories to larger social issues. Pollock also uses found text and images, including headlines and articles, to bring urgency and context into her work. She has been involved in a handful of group exhibitions during her time at Fanshawe College in London, Ontario earning her Ontario Collage Advanced Diploma of Fine Art:
(Somethin’ Ain’t Right, Tap Centre for Creativity (London, ON) 2025, Peer Portraits, Siskind Gallery, Fanshawe Collage (London, ON) 2024, We’re Sew Screwed, Tap Centre for Creativity (London, ON) 2023, Telephone, Satellite Project Space (London, ON) 2023, Juried Exhibition, Siskind Gallery, Fanshawe Collage (London, ON) 2022. Along with her own solo exhibition: Shades of Blue, Siskind Gallery, Fanshawe Collage (London, ON) 2024.
Inspired by artists like Barbara Kruger, Pollock is interested in how language and images shape our understanding of gender and power. Her prints are layered, textured, and sometimes enlarged to create a more immersive experience inviting viewers to pause, reflect, and start conversation.
Sadie's Artist Statement:
My work is grounded in personal experience and shaped by the world around me. I use cyanotype as a starting point in most of my works an intuitive, hands-on process that allows me to explore shape, contrast, space, and unity. Recently, I’ve been expanding into other printmaking techniques like intaglio, relief and silkscreen, layering these processes to build texture and deepen the visual impact of each piece. I’m drawn to everyday objects and found text as well as things that carry meaning, memory, and emotional weight. Items like a grandmother’s ring, a hair clip, or a bottle of perfume become symbols of identity and the roles women are often expected to play. These objects make the work feel personal and familiar, while also opening space for reflection on broader social themes. Some prints are enlarged to shift how they’re experienced, creating a more immersive encounter with the work. I also incorporate text from news sources, such as a CBC article addressing the rise of femicides and violence against women in rural Ontario, to bring in context and urgency. These elements help connect personal stories to the realities many women face.
I’m influenced by artists like Barbara Kruger, whose use of language and visual impact inspires me to think critically about representation, gender, and power. Through combining traditional and contemporary printmaking, I aim to create work that invites connection, reflection, and conversation where personal experience and social awareness meet.
